Jimmy Dean is a famous hot dog chain from Texas. It is a family business that started in 1947 when Jimmy Dean was just 6 years old. This business is a fast food chain founded by his father Paul “Ed” Dean and his mother Mary Louise. In 1950, Jimmy Dean bought the chain and made it more popular. By 1963, Jimmy was the owner and managing director at this restaurant. Today, there are over 700 restaurants across 39 states all over the country. Boar’s Head was established in 1918 by Abe Boar. It is known for its high-quality meat, which is free of preservatives, artificial flavorings and colorings. The company produces no added hormones or antibiotics, especially given its proximity to New York City waterway, the Hudson River. Boar’s Head makes patties and roasts its own beef every day—a custom process that involves cutting and grinding beef then curing it in salt brine for up to twenty-four hours. The final product is placed between flimsy mats at a temperature of 30 degrees Fahrenheit (0.85 degrees Celsius) for a period of forty-eight hours. The product is then cleaned and cooked before being packaged. Boar’s Head also offers sausage in foil packages that are sold at stores and supermarkets.

Kraft General Foods (KGF) was founded by two brothers, Herbert and Theodore Kraft in 1917. The company was originally started as a distributor of corn flakes, oatmeal, canned vegetables, vitamins and other health and household products. In 1937 the brothers decided to open their own restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side at 59th Street, which they named “Kraft’s Restaurant and Lunch Room” (today called “The Forum Restaurant & Bakery Café). By 1950, KGF had acquired the restaurant business of the Leo Corporation. In 1966, KGF was purchased by Gilbert F. Renfro from his former employer (the Howard Johnson’s corporation), who then shifted his attention to the hotel industry.

Chick-fil-A began in 1946 when S. Truett Cathy was inspired by his mother’s chicken recipe (her family owned a restaurant in Georgia). In 1948, S. Truett and his wife, Wilhelmina, opened their first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia (now known as Atlanta).
