“The Business” Movie – Cast & Crew

“The Business” is a 2005 British crime drama film directed by Mike Le Han and starring Daniel Wu as the protagonist Jin. The film also features Ben Chaplin as Leung, a crime boss, and Sienna Guillory as McDowall-Jones, his wife.

In “The Business”, Daniel Wu played Jin 一 an orphaned teen who joined the Triads to find out why his parents had been murdered when he was 9 years old. Jin’s only clue is that he has a number tattooed on his arm with the words ‘the business’ written underneath it. He is soon initiated into the business and he soon finds out that it is much more than a simple used car lot. But just when he reaches the right age to join, his uncle, who wants to take over as the boss, is murdered and Jin is forced to watch his best friend die in front of him. Angry, Jins travels back to England where he has a lot of enemies. The members of ‘the business’ are determined to get revenge on him for the murder of his older brother and from then on Jin is on the run from all sorts of people trying to kill him.

The film was shot in Hong Kong and was released theatrically in Hong Kong cinemas on 28 April 2006. The film was also released in DVD form on 30 May 2006.

Cast:

Ben Chaplin as Leung 一派/ “Leung” (keyword), brother to Jin, boss of the Triads during Jin’s childhood and adulthood. The character is only seen once in flashbacks; he has the same tattoo as his younger brother.

The film ends with Jin facing off against Leung, who reveals to be a lawyer from London who had been working for the Triads for many years prior to the start of the film. Nin lives as a fugitive for some time thereafter, still pursued by the Triads. He is eventually successful in killing Leung, and then surrenders to the police.

Sienna Guillory as McDowall-Jones 一派/ “McDowall” (keyword), wife of Leung who is portrayed as very subservient to her husband. She is killed before the film is over.

Daniel Wu as Jin 一派/ “Jin”, an orphaned teen who joins the Triads to find out why his parents were murdered when he was 9 years old. He is eventually initiated into the business and he soon finds out that it is much more than a simple used car lot. But just when he reaches the right age to join, his uncle, who wants to take over as the boss, is murdered and Jin is forced to watch his best friend die in front of him. He constantly carries various knives on his body and he uses a machine gun as a weapon.

Dennis Chan as Mr. Wong 一派/ “Wong” (keyword), partner of Mr. Chow (who appears only once) in an illegal arms dealing organization.

Sofie Ho as Mr. Yin 一派/ “Yin” (keyword), an associate of Leung who is killed by Jin.

Daniel Wu as Mr. Chow 一派/ “Chow” (keyword), partner of Wong with whom he runs an illegal arms dealing business and a loan sharking business. He is killed by Leung in the film’s climax during his trial, in which he becomes a major suspect in the murder of his own elderly father.

Chor Yiu-ming as Mr. Ho 一派/ “Ho” (keyword), partner of Yin and brother to Leung. Ho is killed by Mr. Chow during his trial, in which he becomes a major suspect in the murder of his elderly father.

Li Shing-yuk as Mr. Shum 一派/ “Shum” (keyword), boss of a triad family and a triad boss who hires Jin to destroy Chow’s Triads.

Anne Heung Nam-sang as Mrs. Shum 一派/ “Shum” (keyword), wife of Mr. Shum, who is first seen bathing in a tub filled with blood and dead bodies.

Conclusion

In February 2007, JD Classics announced the release of another uncut version of “The Business”. This new release has no removal of sex or violence and is passed for cinema release. It includes a number of deleted scenes, outtakes & exclusive interviews with cast & crew members. It also features an audio commentary by the director and writer Mike Le Han, actor Daniel Wu, producer John Shau & actor Dennis Chan.
