The company was founded in 1888 by John H. Pfieffer with $1,000 borrowed from his father, who thought it would be a good idea if his son had something to fall back on during the winter months of the year when he wasn’t able to work outdoors on the farm. John H. Pfieffer’s first solo contract was the Austin Opera House in Austin, Minnesota. Since then, OFS Brands has expanded internationally and has acted as a provider of contract furniture to thousands of businesses.

OFS Brands is able to provide customers with a one-stop shop for their project needs because the company carries three core lines: OFS, KISC and MoveMent. This allows customers to choose from an array of products specifically designed for the function that it would serve best. Each line has its own unique style and is designed with specific uses in mind.

OFS is an acronym for Office Furniture Solutions. This line represents the professional and elegant pieces of furniture. OFS products are reserved for offices and boardrooms, as well as for dining areas. The OFS line includes tables, chairs, file cabinets, credenzas and hutches. MoveMent is a division of OFS Brands that provides high-quality medical equipment to healthcare providers nationwide. MoveMent specializes in wheelchairs and scooters, lift chairs and beds, walkers, commodes and other home healthcare equipment. The company is affiliated with the U.S. Medical, a provider of home medical equipment and supplies. OFS Brands is involved in many charity events and fundraisers, such as the Gift of Christmas program, which provides Christmas toys for underprivileged children and the annual Team OFS triathlon/duathlon fundraiser held every summer in St. Paul, MN. In addition to these events or projects, OFS Brands also provides furniture donations to local and national charities that support the military and veterans.

The primary reason I chose Furniture Brands, Inc. was because of the following reasons:

1. OFS is a family owned business. There are more than a thousand employees at all levels throughout the different brands of furniture. While this does not make them wealthy, their company has survived for more than one hundred and twenty years in spite of many external shocks not only to the economy, but to competitors as well. I believe this to be an indication for their quality control system: quality people that look for and implement new ideas including e-commerce in order to stay ahead of competition.

2. I also believe that OFS Brands is a great company to work for because it has very strong values. They have a customer first philosophy and they make quality products in order to keep the happiness of their customers. This can be seen through the fact that they are willing to give furniture donations to veterans and those less fortunate than them. Their company also must abide by the laws set forth by their country and they comply with all applicable laws pertaining to labor, safety, etc. Also, the corporate structure of OFS Brands is very strong and it shows in the fact that their companies have never not made a profit for any year since at least 2003 if we go back far enough (which we do not).

3. Through researching their company, I found that they have a number of insurance policies to help them with risk management. They carry coverage for property, liability and workers’ compensation just to name a few. I believe that this helps them remain financially stable and keep their customers happy by knowing that OFS Brands has adequate coverage to be able to pay out claims should any occur.

4. OFS Brands is a great company from a business of market perspective: they have no debt, they don’t buy each other out and they are able to remain profitable during difficult economic times. This is probably the best indicator that OFS Brands can be trusted to manage their money responsibly.

5. I also believe that this company has good management because their headquarters are in Minnesota, where all of their employees are based so there is very little travel time required for management to be able to stay in contact with the various brands that they own and oversee while still being back in Minnesota at work themselves.

Overall, I think that OFS Brands is a great company for me to work for because it seems to have all of the qualities that I have been looking for and more. They provide high-quality products and services at competitive prices to their customers, they are involved in many charitable events to help those less fortunate than them and they are also a stable company from a financial perspective.
